His key roles include expanding the lab’s existing analytical instrument capabilities and developing and validating new methodologies for on an array of analytical instruments.
Dr. Jenkins’ duties will center on Smithers Rapra’s material benchmarking and characterization capabilities involving various chromatography and spectrometry techniques serving rubber and polymer product manufacturers.
“Dustin is extremely skilled at translating testing requirements into a study that will provide the data and analysis needed to make critical product development decisions,” said James Popio, Vice President - North America, Smithers Rapra. “He brings a lot of wet lab experience to the table, including chromatography and sample preparation, so he’ll make a fantastic addition to the already impressive staff at our analytical chemistry lab.”
This hire is part of the greater organizational strategy at Smithers, which is aimed at increasing its overall capabilities and expertise in analytical chemistry to support the tire, automotive, rubber and polymer product, medical device and pharmaceutical packaging industries. The company has already made multiple investments in personnel and equipment that support these industries in 2017. Such moves include opening a North American extractables and leachables lab along with expanding chemistry capabilities at its Shawbury, UK analytical lab.
Dr. Jenkins brings over 10 years of experience in organic and inorganic chemistry in academia and research with technical expertise in GC-MS, FT-IR, polarimetry, time-resolved laser spectroscopy, electrochemistry and NMR spectroscopy. Most recently, he was an assistant professor of organic chemistry at Walsh University in North Canton, OH, where he synthesized and identified new organic and inorganic chemical compounds. Jenkins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with Mathematics from Western Kentucky University, as well as a Master of Arts degree and Doctorate in Chemistry from Princeton University.
