Standard Laboratory Tests
Smithers Rapra has been involved in tire testing since almost the inception of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for tires. FMVSS no. 139 covers pneumatic radial tires for light vehicles (GVWR less than or equal to 10,000 lbs). The standard specifies dimensions for tires used on passenger cars and requires that the tires meet specified strength, resistance to bead unseating, endurance, and high-speed requirements, and be labeled with certain safety information. A similar specification exists for radial medium truck tires, which is FMVSS no. 119. All of the requirements of these standards can be performed at Smithers Rapra.
