Tire Valve Testing

Smithers has the capability to perform a variety of tire valve testing including

    • SAE J1205/1206
    • Specialized protocols as required

    Physical Mechanical

The following physical / mechanical tests are performed by Smithers on a regular basis to analyze tire valves. Physical / mechanical are utilized to determine strength of a material as well as aid in determining its durability.

    • Leak Checks
    • Force-to-seal (how much force is required to seat the valve)
    • Flex-Fatigue resistance (cycling valve to determine if the valves crack)
    • On-Wheel dynamic performance (rapid accelerations/decelerations over a period of time)
    • High-Speed behavior investigations

    Chemical Analytical Testing

Our Chemical Analytical studies include studies ranging from basic polymer identification to complete chemical analyses. These studies are often used for comparative analysis, quality control and reverse engineering.

    Environmental Fluid Conditioning

Environmental studies are important to assist in determining the durability of a material when exposed to different environments. Common environmental studies include:

    • Elevated temperature leak tests as a function of temperature
    • Ozone resistance
