Gary has over twenty-four years’ experience in working with rubber materials, in activities focussed on development and failure diagnosis. Gary spent seventeen years working in the tyre industry developing rubber compound formulations and also cord reinforcing materials for high performance road tyres for a number of globally recognised tyre manufacturers. Gary has also researched the application of novel nanomaterials, nanoclays and carbon nanotubes to rubber compounds. He has worked in both developmental and production-related roles in industry, and is familiar with most rubber processing technologies.

Gary works as Lead Consultant in Smithers Rapra’s Polymer Consultancy, providing failure diagnosis, material selection, process support, development, training, and expert witness services to clients from a wide range of industries.
Qualifications and Professional Accreditation
Gary has a degree in Applied Chemistry awarded by the University of Aston in Birmingham. He is a member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and has undergone training in cross examination for expert witnesses. He is the author of several technical papers and patents, and has spoken regularly at key industry conferences.
