  • While much of the environmental impact of the tire occurs during its time in use (where low rolling resistance has become the primary measure of sustainability, on the basis on fuel economy and emissions optimisation), the materials used in tires, and their end-of-life disposal has received increased attention from regulatory authorities and tire makers alike.

  • Over 1 billion tires, mostly from passenger vehicles, reach their end of service life each year. Currently, it is estimated that about 70% of these are recovered, and only 50% are recycled (e.g. via pyrolysis).

  • This market assessment looks at current and evolving technologies of sustainability in the global tire industry from the standpoint of raw materials, recyclability, retreadability (in some applications), collection, processing and end-of-life uses.
  • It explores the vision and strategies the industry is using to pursue a “circular economy” in tires, where sustainable (e.g. biosourced) and recycled materials dominate tire composition, and where end-of-life tires can be recycled rather than diverted to lower value uses, landfills, or stockpiles.

Description

Our exclusive content:

  • Explores the vision and strategies the tire industry is using to pursue a ‘circular economy’
  • Details of the key divers and trends of tire industry sustainability over the next 5 years
  • In-depth analysis of the competitive landscape, key players and new entrants

What methodology is used?

The Future of Tire Sustainability: Recycling, Retreading and End-of-Life to 2023to 2023 is based on data and information gathered from a diverse array of trade, government, technical, and business sources, both secondary and primary (including trade shows and conversations with industry participants). Integrating quantitative and qualitative data, the report takes a global view, in light of the diverse and interconnected supply chains that characterize the vehicle and tire industries in every region. Perspectives from all lifecycle participants are taken into account from raw material suppliers to OEs, manufacturers, distributors and marketers, motorists and fleet managers, and government sources.
