PAEKs (PolyArylEtherKetones) are a type of high performance thermoplastic polymers that are particularly useful in aggressive environments. This group includes PEEK, PEEKK and PEKK, with the different names reflecting the proportion and sequence of ether (E) and ketone (K) components in the monomer. The properties of PAEKs make them suitable for a huge range of applications ranging from aerospace through industrial machinery to medical implants. They can be relatively expensive to produce, so these polymers are used sparingly, but to great effect in tough conditions.
