Silica usage is a critically important tool in the compounding of tire treads for rolling resistance reduction, wet traction improvement, tire labeling compliance, and sustainability. In 2011, data from a proprietary Smithers tire database was used to study silica content in light vehicle tire treads. The study was repeated in 2019 to provide an updated look at usage trends.
In an upcoming one-hour webinar, Smithers expert Bruce Lambillotte will present the findings from the two studies. He will deliver an analysis of silica usage trends since 2011 as influenced by:
- market region
- manufacturer size
- OE vs. replacement
- speed ratings
