Standard Method for Flexural Properties of Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials

Summary

This test method measures the following flexural properties of the specimen material:

  • Flexural Stress

    • Flexural Stress for Beams Tested at Large Support Spans
    • Flexural Strength
    • Flexural Offset Yield Strength
    • Flexural Stress at Break
    • Stress at a Given Strain
    • Flexural Strain
  • Modulus of Elasticity:

    • Tangent Modulus of Elasticity
    • Secant Modulus
    • Chord Modulus

These methods utilise a three-point loading system to apply a load to a simply supported specimen. The method is applicable to rigid and semi-rigid materials. Deflection is measured using either crosshead position.
