Automotive Hose Testing

From coolant hoses to fuel and brake lines, Smithers Rapra conducts a range of hose tests for the automotive industry. The tests required for hose assemblies include those carried out directly on the product as well as tests made on the materials used for the hose construction.

From vehicle OEM specifications to common ASTM, SAE and FMVSS standards, our laboratories can properly evaluate and qualify many different varieties of automotive hoses. The hose application types that we commonly test include:

  • Brake lines
  • Fuel lines
  • Transmission (TOC) lines
  • A/C hoses
  • Heater hoses
  • Radiator hoses
  • Power steering hoses
  • Intercooler hoses
  • Hydraulic hoses
  • Turbocharger hoses
  • Battery cooling hoses

Our laboratories provide a wide range of capabilities that can provide hose manufacturers with great flexibility when conducting standard testing or designing custom protocols to evaluate specific performance requirements. Our key capabilities cover:

  • Pressure, Vibration, and Temperature evaluations
  • Dynamic fatigue
  • Fluid Compatibility
  • Air and liquid cycling
  • Static, circulated or impulse pressure (high and low pressure)
  • Burst testing
  • Vacuum testing
  • Electro dynamic shaker / vibration
  • Material identification (fingerprint)
  • Servo-hydraulics capabilities (tensile, strength, vibration, etc.)
  • Material identification for liner and jacket materials
  • 3-A Sanitary Standards testing
